Bringing someone with you? How to get a new player into Magic
One deck. Infinite mana. No mercy.
- • One shared deck.
- • Infinite mana.
- • One spell per turn.
- • The Four NOs: no search, no X spells, no infinite loops, no duplicates.
The 30-Second Version
- One shared deck and one shared graveyard. 2–6 players.
- Infinite mana. Ignore the cost symbols in the top-right corner and any cost written in the text. You can always pay them.
- One spell on your turn, and one instant on each other player's turn. like Rule of Law.
- Start at 20 life. Last player standing (or last one above 0) wins.
- Opening hand of 7. Discard down to 7 at the end of your turn.
That’s the whole format in one breath.
Getting Started
- 1
Shuffle the Big Deck and put it face-down in the middle of the table.
- 2
Each player draws 7 cards.
- 3
Decide who goes first (whatever method you like). The first player draws on their turn.
- 4
Everyone starts at 20 life.
- 5
Used, destroyed, and discarded cards go into a shared face-up graveyard pile.
You’re ready.
What a Turn Looks Like
- 1
Untap. Untap all your cards.
- 2
Draw. Draw one card from the Big Deck.
- 3
Combat or Main, in either order. Attack with untapped creatures, and/or play one card from your hand.
- 4
End. Discard down to 7 cards if you have more than 7.
The one-spell rule
- • On your turn you can play one card during your Main phase.
- • On each opponent’s turn you may play one Instant (if you have one).
Ignore every printed cost. You can always pay it.
Creatures can’t attack the turn they come into play. Combat otherwise works the way you already play. New players get the combat walkthrough here.
